Insulated Pipe Heat Loss
Calculate heat loss per metre and in total from an insulated pipe, free online.
About this calculator
Conduction through a cylindrical insulation layer: Q per metre = 2ฯยทkยท(T_fluid โ T_ambient) รท ln(rโ รท rโ), where rโ is the pipe outside radius and rโ = rโ + insulation thickness. Typical k: mineral wool 0.04 W/mยทK, polyurethane foam 0.025, fibreglass 0.035. Surface film resistance is ignored, so real losses are slightly lower.
